Medicare Annual Enrollment Period 2019 Updates
The big question of the 2019 enrollment season is UPMC vs. Highmark. A landmark court ruling has allowed the UPMC Health Network to stop seeing Medicare Advantage clients enrolled with Highmark plans beginning in June of 2019. This is leaving many patients out in the cold without access to their long time health care providers and local community hospitals.
While Allegheny Health Network hospitals and providers have not reciprocated by blocking access to UPMC plan members, UPMC is putting the squeeze on by making out of pocket costs much lower for patients that see UPMC providers.
Do you even need to worry about this spat? There are other affordable plan options that allow access to all local networks and a large proportion of local doctors and specialists.
